Nutrition
And not only that…

Everyone talks about the importance of prevention and health promotion.
Everyone talks about the importance of a varied, healthy and balanced diet.
Yet how many people actually do anything?

Why?
Perhaps our body’s ability to adapt, the fact that imbalances of any nature do not turn into disorders or diseases in a short time, “fools” us.
Maybe our brain, or rather our unconscious, and friends tell us.
“It’s just a few extra pounds, what’s the big deal!”
Or “I can’t, in fact I don’t want to give up friends, I need to socialize!”
Or “I go on a diet, lose pounds that I’ll gain back!”

All right.
What if it’s not just that?
Eating to feel good about oneself but also about others.
Doing physical activity for pleasure and enjoyment.
Understand me because I am a person, an individual who enjoys life.
Learning the body-mind-sociality rules to be myself: a fully realized individual in personal as well as professional life.

But how?
It depends on the goal you want to achieve.
Meaning?

We see it
In a very simple way.

CHAPTER 1: WEIGHT LOSS

I’m overweight; I don’t like all these pounds.
What can I do?

Losing weight of course.
Inter-Med® has been dealing with these problems for more than 25 years now, offering two methods whose protocols also include the use of protein products and nutritional supplements suited to the individual and his or her goals.

1. R.M.A.® method

Proven over more than 25 years of medical practice and research, it is aimed at all overweight people who are in good health, aged 18 to 65 years. It is also recommended for those with health problems related to being overweight. The R.M.A.® Metabolic-Food Reeducation method enables weight loss/loss in a protected mode, safely and under medical supervision.

The advantages of the R.M.A.® Method:

1. Absence of hunger
2. Dynamism and good humor
3. Physical tone
4. Simplicity of application
5. Speed and confidence in achieving goals
6. Easy and accurate evaluation of results
7. Acquisition of a varied and balanced diet
8. Maintenance of achievement

2. The ProtiVit® Diet.

The ProtiVit® Diet involves an eating plan that uses the principles of protein diet and low-calorie diet. In fact, protein products are used, as well as foods with a customized planning and adapted to the goal defined with the practitioner.

I’m fine, but I think I need to understand what is meant by varied and balanced nutrition.
I’ve lost weight, now what?
What can I do?

Inter-Med®, although best known for weight loss, also addresses the maintenance of achieved weight and/or balanced nutrition by integrating aspects of nutrition with those of the psyche.

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.”

(Hippocrates)

INTER-MED WELNESS® also proposes to view weight maintenance from a psychological aspect, when it proves beneficial to the patient.

Grasping the limiting link between compulsive behavior and food is the first step on a successful personal path to one’s well-being, beyond fitness weight.

“Eating is a necessity, eating intelligently is an art.”

(La Rochefoucault)

CHAPTER 2: WEIGHT MAINTENANCE

The healthy and balanced diet

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is essential to protect oneself of chronic non-communicable diseases (diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, rheumatological diseases, etc.).

Too much sugar, too much fat, too many caloric and salt-rich foods are consumed.

One only has to read the composition of the processed foods found in supermarkets and observe the new (often sedentary) lifestyles to see that the new patterns are moving away from what is called wellness.

It is the same for those who alternate between weight loss diets and weight regain. The yo-yo effect has deleterious consequences on mental and physical, social and cultural well-being.

The WHO recommendations can be summarized as follows:

1 – Fruits and vegetables
At least 400 grams (5 servings*) of fresh fruits and vegetables per day, preferably seasonal and organically produced.
*one serving (about 80 grams)
2 – Consume legumes and whole grains.
3 – Limit sugar intake.
4 – Control the amount of fat intake
5 – Control or limit the use of salt in foods.

Often the ratio of macronutrients (carbohydrates, fat, and protein) is imbalanced to the detriment of the protein share.

Sometimes the individual has to cover certain nutritional needs and cannot always do so with “traditional” food. This is when it becomes interesting to be able to use targeted supplementation to best cover needs, remembering that supplements should not be used all the time, and in any case preferably with the help of a professional. However, they must be an added value in nutrition for the well-being of the individual.

CHAPTER 3: NUTRITION EDUCATION

Often, in response to what one perceives as difficulties, stress, dissatisfaction with one’s personal and/or professional life, and hectic schedules, one “uses” food to soothe one’s discomfort.

Some throw themselves on sweets, others on food in general (binge eating).

Some on addictive substances (alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc.).

As a result, understanding these issues as well and being accompanied by professionals can make us “makers” of our own behaviors to approach everyone’s own concept of well-being.

Nutrition education is an “informational and educational process, a means by which the general improvement of the nutritional status of individuals is pursued through the promotion of appropriate eating habits, the elimination of unhealthy eating behaviors, the utilization of more hygienic food handling, and the efficient utilization of food resources” (World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization definition).

We are not only talking about quantity, selection or elimination of certain foods but rather about cultural nutrition, pleasure (mindfull eating), mindfulness and psycho-physical social well-being.

In fact, the World Health Organization defines health not only as an absence of disease or infirmity but as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.

“The real voyage of discovery is not to find new territories, but to possess other eyes, to see the universe through the eyes of another, of hundreds of others: to observe the hundred universes that each of them observes, that each of them is.”
(Marcel Proust)
